Solitary Snow Owl Craft
How would you describe your business?
My shop has always been a mix of many things because I have so many talents and, at times, found it (and still do) hard to just stick to one. Throughout the years I did try streamlining certain types of my work and items in separate shops but in the end I always came back to, what was once Melanie’s Originals now Solitary Snow Owl Craft. At the moment I have two shops on Etsy but my main focus right now is on Solitary Snow Owl Craft, while Solitary Snow Owl Soap (formerly Soap Addicts) is on the back burner.
As a kid I was always drawn to thirft shops and wanting to sell found items in a yard sale type of form to others but living in NYC that was hard. That feeling of wanting to sell never left but the premise changed from found items to my own handmade ones. I work with many mediums such as clay, felt, fleece, herbs, oils and gemstones just to name a few, and you will see a lot of this in my shop.
My inspiration comes from many different things in life. I focus on fantasy and geeky themed items but my biggest is the metaphysical. As a Wiccan my spiritual path has a huge influence on me when I am creating.
4) What are some of your personal signature lines?
Some of my personal signature lines at the moment:
Of my felt/fleece items are my owl monsters and my goddess dolls, which I designed the patterns for. I have a few different size and shape goddess dolls that I make. The pocket size are my newest in the line.
Of my clay and other items that would be my yoga posed goddess stone holder statues (by custom order only) and my metaphysical bottle necklaces.
Can you tell us about a specific product or service and why you offer that one?
If I were talking about my soap that would have to be the olive oil apricot scrub bar because of the wonders it does on the face but since that shop is not open at the moment I just offer what I believe customers want (and sometimes asked for).
You can find me online on Etsy and Facebook. I have many items that are not listed in my Etsy shop so it’s always a good idea to check my Facebook page as well. Please see my social media links at number 8 below but here is my Etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/SolitarySnowOwlCraft
Do you offer wholesale, drop shipping, affiliate or other programs?
I do take custom orders within reason. I have had some pretty crazy request at times but I try my best to accommodate customers. Satisfaction is my number one priority.

Do you have any current sales or specials or any products in development?
I have some new product ideas that I hope to have out in time for the holidays. I don’t want to name any yet just in case they don’t turn out.
Some information about what and why I make the things I do, and the materials and things I use to make my products.
My felt and fleece creations lean more towards the fantasy and geeky side of me with octopies and dolls, but there is some of the spiritual side of me as well. My owl monsters represent my spirit animal the snowy owl and the goddess dolls come from the strong connection I have with her (the goddess). My goddess dolls are very special to me and one of the more popular items among online customers. They became so popular that I designed different sizes and shapes in order to offer more affordable options, and reach out to a larger market.
The materials I use with my plush items are eco felt and polyester fleece, which these days is made from a lot of reused items like recycled soda bottles and plastic. I have vended at a lot of vegan events even though I am not vegan myself, and this has helped me to insure that my materials are as eco friendly as possible.
The metaphysical items branch out into my clay talents and the side of me that learned all about soap making. I used my soap and bath body item making knowledge to help me with the bottle necklaces I make. Each bottle is for a different aspect of one’s life because they contain herbs, oils and gemstones that represent different properties. Of course the question of how do they work always comes up and the answer is very simple; intention and beliefs. The clay items also have certain meanings depending on the piece. Some are just ornamental and others can be used in ritual work or on one’s altar as a tool or guardian piece.
The materials used in these items are very basic but there is a lot that comes from nature as well. The oils and herbs I use are high quality and I get a lot of them locally unless it’s a very hard to find ingredient.by
